On the weekend we managed to make it to World Square in the Melbourne CBD, right near the main Flinder Street train station, to go to the ‘Game Masters’ exhibition, which is being run at ACMI. As Chrissy has been working weeknds since we have been living in Melbourne this was one of our first chances to explore Melbourne together and both enjoying video games we thought it would be interesting to check out.
For those that have not heard of it, Game Masters is an exhibition walking through the history of video games, mainly taking a look from the game designers point of view. The whole idea behind it is that many people can name numerous movie producers and musicians, and yet gaming is just as big an industry, yet very few people know who actually creates the games.
It features people such as Will Wright (Sim City, The Sims), Peter Molyneux (Black & White), Shigeru Miyamoto (godfather of Nintendo) and heaps of others. It also has over 125 playable games, right through from retro arcade pong and pacmans through to new 3D Japanes music games that kind of freaked me out.
All up the Game MAster exhibition is definitly worth a visit, the average gamer is now in their late 20′s so it is good to see the history of it all. You could spend a lot of time there if you played every game, we just had a quick look, but it was good for a bit of nostalgia
